I might push back.
A graphic designer that I admire, Jenna Johnson, talked about these three points of why we, designers, may “push back” on something you, as a client, really like. This post was written by me, but inspired by Jenna’s words.
There may be moments as we work together that I will push back on your choices, decisions, or ideas. Here are some things to consider when you hire me as your graphic designer and some top reasons why you can trust me.
I am constantly studying current trends in design. I have been a designer for a long time and even when I’m on vacation, I’m looking at what’s popular in the design world. I can’t stop admiring fonts, patterns, and color palettes (even if I tried), designing runs in my bones. From a mile away, I can spot a fad or a trend, I can see what’s on its way out and what will be relevant to your design needs. Trust me.
I can see what might “date” your brand. There are certain design aesthetics that come and go so, when it comes to elements, like your logo, it is in your best interest to keep the design timeless. I learned this concept when I was studying interior design, keep the base of the room neutral and play with accessories to express your individuality. You can incorporate trends and fads into your project in other ways that still keep your design aesthetic cohesive. Trust me.
I can see the big picture and may have concerns. There is a lot going on in my head that I can not adequately describe in a conversation or presentation. Processing and planning ahead for your design needs, I am considering future products, different applications, and mediums, along with growth for your brand/business. Trust me.
I have your best interest in mind when we partner together on a design project. I work hard to provide a design that you are proud of, I want you to succeed and for everything that represents your brand to be perfection.
When we work together and I push back on an idea or concept, I’m not trying to build my portfolio, I’m working to create the best design for YOU. You can trust me.
